How do I create an account?

Tap "Register" on the login screen. Choose any username (3โ€“20 characters, letters/numbers/underscore only) and a password of at least 8 characters. No email required โ€” GridChat uses Privacy Tier by design, so we don't need your identity.

Is GridChat really free?

โ–ผ

Yes. Core messaging is completely free. PRO features (Privacy Mode, GhostMode, GP Vault, Safety Engine) are available for โ‚ฌ25/month. Family (โ‚ฌ69/month, up to 5 members) and Company plans (โ‚ฌ50/month, up to 50 employees) are also available.

How does contact search work?

Go to the Chats tab โ†’ Find Contact โ†’ enter a username. If the person exists, you can add them as a contact. They'll receive a notification that you added them. They can accept or ignore it.

What are tokens and how do I earn them?

โ–ผ

Tokens are earned through daily login and by inviting friends. Spend 1 token to send a message to a PRO user. Tokens reset monthly โ€” stay active to keep earning. Free users can still message each other for free.

How do I start an encrypted chat?

All chats between two users are automatically encrypted using Privacy Tier when both parties are PRO users. If your contact is on a free plan, messages use standard encryption. PRO users can enable Privacy Mode in the chat for additional protection.

What is Privacy Tier?

โ–ผ

Privacy Tier is GridChat's trademarked privacy system. It means your messages are encrypted end-to-end using the GP Encryption Engine โ€” mathematically enforced, so not even Grid BV can read your messages. No backdoors. No exceptions. It's not a promise โ€” it's mathematics.

Can Grid BV read my messages?

โ–ผ

No. Under Privacy Tier, not even Grid BV can decrypt your messages. Encryption happens on your device before anything is sent. Our servers only ever see encrypted ciphertext. The GP Encryption Engine uses AES-256-GCM, Curve25519, and double-ratchet forward secrecy.

What is GhostMode?

โ–ผ

GhostMode (PRO) makes you completely invisible. Other users cannot see your online status, last seen time, or typing indicators. You appear offline to everyone while still being able to read incoming messages. Toggle it on in Profile โ†’ GhostMode.

What is the Safety Engine?

โ–ผ

The Safety Engine is a 3-layer security system built into PRO: Phishing Shield blocks malicious URLs before you click them; Leak Monitor checks if your data appears in known data breaches; Contact Guard detects impersonators in your contact list.

What is the GP Vault?

โ–ผ

GP Vault (PRO) is your private encrypted notes space. Store sensitive text, passwords, or personal data โ€” all encrypted with your private key. Only you can decrypt and read it. Access it from the Vault tab in the main navigation.

Is my location data private?

โ–ผ

Location sharing is optional and encrypted. When you share your location with a contact, it's encrypted end-to-end โ€” we can't read it. Location sharing can be stopped at any time. PRO users also have access to Geofence Zones โ€” you get notified when specific contacts enter or leave a geographic area you define.

How do I upgrade to PRO?

Go to Profile โ†’ Upgrade to PRO. PRO costs โ‚ฌ25/month. Billing is handled securely. Cancel anytime โ€” your PRO features remain active until the end of your billing period.

How do I delete my account?

โ–ผ

Go to Profile โ†’ Delete Account. This permanently erases all your data in accordance with GDPR Article 17 โ€” your messages, contacts, profile, and activity logs are all permanently deleted. This action cannot be undone.

Do you store payment information?

โ–ผ

No. All payments are processed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS compliant payment provider. We never see or store your payment card details. Your card data goes directly to Stripe over an encrypted connection.

Can I transfer my PRO subscription?

โ–ผ

Individual PRO subscriptions are not transferable. For family or company plans, the plan owner manages member access. Contact us at privacy@gridchat.app for special circumstances.

How do I create a Company account?

โ–ผ

Company accounts are available at โ‚ฌ50/month for up to 50 employees. The Company Admin can invite team members, manage access, and transfer admin rights. Go to Profile โ†’ Company Dashboard to get started. Contact us for enterprise pricing above 50 users.

What is the Family plan?

โ–ผ

The Family plan (โ‚ฌ69/month) covers up to 5 family members with all PRO features. The plan owner can invite and remove family members. All members get full PRO access including GhostMode, Privacy Mode, GP Vault, and the Safety Engine.

How do I invite employees or family members?

โ–ผ

As a Company Admin or Family plan owner, go to your Dashboard โ†’ Invite Member. Enter their username and they will be added to your plan. They'll receive access immediately.

Why can't I see my contact's online status?

โ–ผ

They may have GhostMode enabled (PRO feature), which hides online status from everyone. This is their privacy choice and cannot be overridden โ€” it's a core Privacy Tier feature.

My messages aren't sending. What do I do?

โ–ผ

1. Check your internet connection. 2. Try closing and reopening the chat. 3. Try logging out and back in. 4. Make sure the app has internet permission. 5. If the problem persists, try reinstalling the app.

How do I report inappropriate content?

โ–ผ

Long-press any message โ†’ tap "Report User", or go to Profile โ†’ Help & FAQ โ†’ Contact Support. For urgent issues involving imminent harm, email privacy@gridchat.app with "URGENT" in the subject line.

I didn't receive my notifications.

โ–ผ

1. Make sure notifications are enabled in your device settings. 2. Check that you're not in Do Not Disturb mode. 3. Make sure the app has notification permission. 4. If you have a PRO subscription, GhostMode won't affect notifications โ€” they'll still arrive.

Can I use GridChat on multiple devices?

โ–ผ

Yes โ€” your account is tied to your username, not a device. Sign in on any device with your username and password. Note: messages are encrypted per-device โ€” your private key stays on each device. This maintains Privacy Tier even across devices.
